If she doesn’t want her mom to see the actual movie, she probably shouldn’t tell her about this video either.įifty Shades of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson (the wife of Quicksilver, Aaron Taylor-Johnson) also directed this music video, the song for which she calls a perfect match for the film. She does have some tan-colored undergarments on, but they are few and far between. But the cherry on top of this BDSM sundae is a nearly naked Dakota Johnson dangling from the stage ceiling and covered in ropes. The Weeknd’s "Earned It" was released as the soundtrack’s single, and they debuted a pretty racy video of Abel Tesfaye surrounded by a small army of scantily clad women performing a scandalous burlesque routine.

Ironically, the same year Fifty Shades is vying for an Oscar, the film is also a leading Razzie nominee, earning nods for Worst Picture, Worst Actor (Jamie Dornan), and Worst Actress ( Dakota Johnson). The Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack features an array of baby-making hits, like Annie Lennox performing "I Put a Spell On You" and a sexified remix of Beyonce’s "Crazy In Love." But this music video is for neither of those. Not only did it include a shattering, slow-mo rendition of Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” and Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do,” but, no pun intended, The Weeknd earned this Oscar nod: His track “Earned It” plays like a timeless let’s-get-it-on mood-setter. But of all the offenses the Fifty Shades film may have committed (chief among them, in my opinion, not casting Armie Hammer as Christian Grey), its soundtrack was a triumph. However implausibly, Fifty Shades now has a place in Oscar history, its trailer embedded alongside clips featuring modern Oscar royalty like Cate Blanchett and Eddie Redmayne.

Specifically, the Oscar could go to The Weeknd, who is nominated for Best Song for “Earned It,” one of the seductive standards he penned for the big-screen adaptation of the BDSM fest. James, could win an Academy Award this Sunday. Gird your inner goddess: Fifty Shades of Grey, the much-lambasted film based on the much-mocked kinky trilogy by E.
